The Acago AFBR-709SMZ is a 10Gbps multimode fiber SFP+ optical module designed for short-distance high-speed data transmission.
I. Model Parameters and Functions
1. Packaging and Rate
It adopts the SFP+ small form-factor pluggable packaging and supports 10Gbps full-duplex transmission (compatible with 1.25-10.31 Gbps rates),
conforming to the 10GBASE-SR/SW standard. It is compatible with protocols such as Ethernet (IEEE 802.3ae) and Fiber Channel (10G FC).
The module is equipped with an 850nm VCSEL laser and PIN photodetector, achieving a transmission distance of 300 meters (OM3 fiber) or 400 meters (OM4 fiber) through multimode fiber (MMF), with a typical optical budget of 4.6 dB.
2. Digital Diagnostics and Compatibility
It supports digital diagnostic functions (DOM/DDM), allowing real-time monitoring of parameters such as optical power, bias current,
and temperature through a 2-wire serial interface, meeting network management requirements.
The module is compatible with the SFP+ MSA standard (SFF-8431/8432) and can be seamlessly integrated with equipment from major manufacturers such as ,
Cisco, HUAWEI, and Juniper. Some compatible versions (such as third-party modules) have passed the TAA certification, making them suitable for government or critical infrastructure projects.
3. Industrial-grade Reliability
It operates within a temperature range of 0°C to 70°C, suitable for standard commercial environments.
It features a metal housing design with low EMI (electromagnetic interference) characteristics and complies with RoHS environmental standards. The module consumes approximately 0.6W of power and supports high-density deployment.
II. Typical Application Scenarios
1. Short-distance interconnection in data centers
Rack-to-rack connections: Used for 10G links between servers and switches (TOR), and between switches, replacing SFP+ DAC/AOC cables to reduce costs and extend transmission distances.
Storage Area Network (SAN): Connects storage arrays and servers in a Fiber Channel architecture, supporting the 10G FC protocol to meet low-latency data access requirements.
2. Enterprise campus networks
Inter-building connections: Establishes 10G links between switches in different buildings within the campus, such as between office buildings and data centers, with OM3 fiber covering a range of 300 meters.
Video surveillance systems: Transmits multiple high-definition camera data streams, ensuring stable transmission of real-time video streams. The DOM function enables remote monitoring of link health status.
3. Industrial automation
Factory networks: Connects devices such as PLCs and robot controllers in a smart manufacturing environment, supporting industrial protocols (such as PROFINET).
The standard temperature range (0-70°C) is suitable for most workshop environments.
Transportation hubs: Data transmission for monitoring systems in airports and high-speed railway stations, where multimode fiber has better interference resistance than copper cables.
4. Edge computing and Internet of Things
Edge node interconnection: Establishes 10G links between IoT gateways and core networks, supporting real-time data analysis and decision-making, such as sensor data transmission in smart grids.
5G small cells: Achieves fronthaul/midhaul connections between 5G distributed units (DU) and centralized units (CU), supporting the CPRI protocol (confirmation of module support required).
III. Technical Advantages and Selection Recommendations
1. Multi-protocol flexibility
The module supports protocols such as 10GBASE-SR/SW, 10G FC, and STM-64, capable of carrying data, voice, and video traffic simultaneously.
For example, in enterprise networks, it can transmit Ethernet data as well as support Fiber Channel storage traffic. 2. Differences from Similar Products
Cost Optimization: The price of third-party compatible modules (such as Edgeoptic and Optcore versions) is only 60-70% of the original factory (Avago/Broadcom) ones, while offering the same performance and lifetime warranty.
Fiber Matching: Compared to single-mode modules, multimode fibers (OM3/OM4) are cheaper and suitable for short-distance scenarios. However, it is necessary to note the transmission distance difference between OM3 and OM4.
3. Deployment Considerations
Fiber Type: Prefer OM3 or OM4 fibers, and avoid OM1/OM2 due to insufficient bandwidth causing signal degradation. For example, OM3 fiber supports 300 meters at 10Gbps, while OM4 can reach 400 meters.
Power Management: SFP+ modules have low power consumption (0.6W), but when multiple modules are densely deployed, it is still necessary to ensure good heat dissipation of the equipment.
